Even if this happened a long time ago, I know my friends who won the the said award deserve a spot in my blog. Congratulations again to Stacey, Abigail, Christine, and Michelle! I am so proud of you. Your hard word paid off after all. Keep it up!

“Students from the De La Salle University-Manila, College of Computer Studies (CCS) won 1st place in the recently concluded Globe Labs 2008 Challenge held in Makati City last Dec. 05, 2008. With their project entitled, “Imus Farm Animals Healthcare Portal (IFAHP)”, the group’s entry was awarded category winner for Enhanced SMS/MMS applications. The group includes Abigail Teo, Christine Tavera, Stacey Yu, and Michelle Tan.
Imus Farm Animals Healthcare Portal (IFAHP) is a web-based application that aims to support the diffusion agricultural and veterinary services in the Municipality of Imus, Cavite. Through the use web-based and mobile technologies, IFAHP’s main purpose was to create an on-line venue to access municipal veterinary services. Features of IFAHP include an on-line repository of veterinary/farmer records, incident tracking module, barangay profiling feature, and access to animal healthcare articles. IFAHP is also capable of generating reports for the municipal and provincial agriculture offices. On the innovative use of mobile technology, the IFAHP’s SMS feature allowed the concept of “information push” giving a high level of accessibility among stakeholders. Information that could be received or retrieved (information pull) via SMS includes announcements, checking of program application status, animal medicine availability, and barangay profiling.
Aside from being part of the College’s ICT for Development (ICT4D) research track, IFAHP was also part of the La Salle Institute of Governance’s (LSIG) initiative related to the Leveraging Mobile Technologies project sponsored by the Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions (SPIDER). Mr. Sherwin Ona served as the group’s ICT4D research and SPIDER project mentor, while Dr. Franscisco Magno acted as overall SPIDER project coordinator for DLSU-Manila counterpart.”
